Crossing the Weir

For Bundeena and Maianbar residents one of the challenges of commuting life is dealing with Audley Weir located in the Royal National Park. A drive through the park normally takes 25 minutes. Audley Weir is at the tail end of the drive at around the 20 minute mark.

After heavy rains the weir can flood. Normally drivers are warned at the 10 minute point that the weir is flooded and should head out via the Waterfall entrance. Sometimes though they don't put the sign up earlier enough and drivers only realise the weir is flooded when they get there.

The choice for drivers is to doubleback to Waterfall which will take another 25 minutes or to brave crossing the weir and risk getting stuck. On this morning everyone took the brave option!
